La experiencia de un debutante extranjero

Me llamo Darren Skuse y soy de Sydney, Australia. Soy jugador de baloncesto en silla de ruedas desde hace ocho años. Además, he representado a mi país en varias ocasiones en torneos internacionales. El año pasado jugué nueve meses en la Universidad de Wisconsin, en Estados Unidos. Fue a finales de año cuando Miguel Ángel Serrano (Director Deportivo de la sección BSR del Polaris World C.B. Murcia) contactó conmigo para que viniese a jugar a Polaris World. Jugar en Murcia era una buena oportunidad para mí, así que acepté el contrato.

Estoy aquí desde hace cuatro meses y estoy disfrutando mucho. Mis compañeros de equipos en Polaris forman un grupo de tíos realmente bueno y me encanta entrenar y jugar con ellos. Hay muchos jóvenes talentos en el equipo y, en el tiempo que llevo aquí, hemos trabajado duro. Las facilidades y recursos que el Polaris World ofrece al conjunto son fantásticas. Aunque fue difícil jugar en una pista de goma, ya que en Australia sólo jugábamos en suelo de madera.

La experiencia cultural de vivir en España también ha sido muy valiosa. Realmente me encanta el estilo de vida de España y sus costumbres, especialmente la siesta de por la tarde. Lo mejor de aquí es la comida, que es estupenda.

Además, la gente de Murcia es muy amigable y he hecho muchos amigos, tanto en el equipo como en la ciudad.

En este momento, el equipo Polaris World está luchando para conseguir victorias. Creo que todavía tenemos la oportunidad de dar un giro a la temporada. El grupo de chavales jóvenes tiene mucho talento y, si seguimos practicando duro, aprendiendo y evolucionando como equipo, podremos obtener buenos resultados en la segunda mitad de la temporada.

Jugar para Polaris World me recompensa, pero, a su vez, es un desafío, y estoy deseando que llegue el resto de temporada.

My name is Darren Skuse and I come from Sydney, Australia. I have been playing wheelchair basketball for 8 years. I have represented Australia on various occasions at International Tournaments. Last year I played in the USA for 9 months at the University of Wisconsin. At the end of last year Miguel Angel Serrano contacted me to come and play for Polaris World. It was a great opportunity for me to play in Murcia, Spain and I accepted the contract.

I have been in Murcia, Spain for 4 months now and I am really enjoying my time here. My team mates in Polaris are really good group of guys and I enjoy practicing and playing with them. There are a lot of young talented players on the team and we have been training hard over the last 4 months. The facilities and resources that Polaris World provides the team are great. Although it was different playing on a rubber court where in Australia we only ever play on timber floors.

The cultural experience of living in Spain has also been very valuable. I really enjoy the Spanish lifestyle and customs especially the afternoon siesta.

The best thing would have to be the food which is great. The people of Murcia are really friendly and I have made new friends both in the team and also in the city.

At this point in time Polaris World team is struggling get some wins up. I believe we still have a chance to turn the season around. The group of young guys has a lot of talent and if we keep practicing hard, learning and developing ourselves as a team we can get some good results for the second half of the season.

Playing for Polaris World is both rewarding and challenging and I am looking forward to the remainder of the season.
